PROCEEDINGS OF THE NATIONAL SEMINAR ON

"Pan Indian English Literature and Mother Tongue Literature in English Translation : A Correlation"

07 SEPTEMBER 2025 at Hotel Akbari, Cuttack


The Researchers' Association, Odisha, organised a one-day National Seminar on the subject mentioned above at Hotel Akbari, Cuttack. The registration of the delegates was held between 9 am and 10 am by the Registration Team consisting of five members, namely Dr. Pravat Kumar Mishra, Dr Braja Kishore Pall, Dr. Premalata Rout, Dr. Sonali Das, and Dr. Ujjwal Dutta. A Photo Exhibition was organised by Dr. Manmohan Mishra, Dr. Rajendra Kumar, and Dr. Braja Kishore Pall. Media Interaction was done by Dr. Bilkesh Parveen.


Inaugural Session


The Inaugural Session began at 10:25 am with Professor Bijay Kumar Das, the President of the Researchers' Association, Odisha, in the Chair. At the outset, he delivered the Welcome Address. Prof. Sailendra Kumar Mahapatra, former Principal of Bhadrak Autonomous College, Bhadrak, lit the lamp and declared the Seminar open. Dr. Sonali Das, Associate Professor of English, P.G. Department of Language and Literature, F.M. University, Balasore, and Dr. Premalata Rout, Principal, Jagannath Higher Secondary School, Balasore, introduced the Guests.

Dr. Braja Kishore Pall, Principal Oupada Higher Secondary School, Balasore, read out the proceedings of the last Seminar held on 13 April 2025 at Hotel Akbari, Cuttack.

Professor Bijay Kumar Das introduced the Theme of the Seminar.


Launching of The Researchers' Association Comprehensive Newsletter 2025.


The Newsletter was launched by Prof. Sailendra Kumar Mahapatra, Professor Bijay Kumar Das, Prof. Ashok Kumar Mohanty, and Dr. Satya Sindhu Ghosh. Dr. Sonali Das compered the programme. Prof.Ashok Kumar Mohanty, formerly, SOA University, Bhubaneswar, proposed a Vote of Thanks.


Paper Reading Session I


Dr. Satya Sindhu Ghosh, former Associate Professor of English, Khandra College, (W.B.), chaired the Session in which Dr. Rajendra Kumar, Assistant Professor of English, Govt. P.G. College, Mirzapur (UP), presented a paper on Prem Chand's "Godan" and Dr. Ujjawal Dutta (West Bengal Education Service) presented a paper on R.K.Narayan's "The Guide".


Felicitations and Ovation


Dr. Braja Kishore Pall was felicitated on being awarded a PhD in English at F.M.University under the Supervision of Dr Sonali Das.


Ovation was given to Dr. Sonali Das for successful Guidance. All the Delegates and Resource Persons heartily congratulated both the Scholar and the Supervisor.


Lifetime Achievement Award to Professor Sailendra Kumar Mahapatra.
In recognition of his Contribution to Creative Writing in Odia. Prof. Mahapatra was given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Researchers ' Association for the Year 2025. He was given a Uttariya and a Citation by Professor Bijay Kumar Das,the President of the Association. Dr. Sonali Das read out the Citation written in honour of Prof. Mahapatra. He was given a Bouquet by Prof.Ashok Kumar Mohanty and a Standing Ovation by all the delegates of the Seminar.



Paper Reading Session II


This Session was chaired by Prof.Ashok Kumar Mohanty, in which Dr. Sonali Das presented her paper titled "Narrating History and Intergenerational Memory in Amitava Ghosh's 'The Glass Palace'". Dr. Ramesh Chandra Pradhani presented his paper titled "The Role of Spirituality and Mysticism in R.K.Narayan's' The Guide".


Plenary Lecture by Professor Bijay Kumar Das


Prof. Das delivered a Plenary Lecture titled "Pan Indian English Literature and Mother Tongue Literature in English Translation:An Overview". His lecture was distributed among the delegates in the form of a Booklet.


Workshop on the Evaluation of PhD Thesis (Dissertation) Professor Bijay Kumar Das conducted and moderated the Workshop. It evoked lively participation among the Delegates. It is a guideline for the PhD evaluators.


Paper Reading Session III


This Session was chaired by Prof. Ashok Kumar Mohanty, in which Dr. Dayanidhi Pradhan presented a paper on Anita Desai's novels, and Dr. Natabar Jena presented a paper on "Silence the Court is in Session" and "Rebati".


Felicitations to Dr Bilkesh Parveen on her Elevation to Principalship. It was a happy moment for all the delegates to felicitate Dr. Bilkesh Parveen for getting this new position.


Valedictory Session


Dr. Krishna Chandra Mishra, Dr. Satya Sindhu Ghosh, and Mr. Laxmidhar Panda spoke in this Session. Prof. Sailendra Mahapatra gave away the participation Certificates to the delegates along with other Guests. Prof. Ashok Kumar Mohanty chaired the Session. Dr. Pravat Kumar Mishra, former Associate Professor of English, Niali College, Cuttack, summed up the day's proceedings and proposed a Vote of thanks.
