PROCEEDINGS OF THE TWO-DAY NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON

"Mahatma Gandhi in Indian Literature and a Symposium on Gandhi's Correspondence with Churchill, Nehru, Rajaji, Patel, and Azad"

10-11 June 2023 at Hotel Akbari, Cuttack


The Resarchers' Association, Odisha organised a two--day National Conference and Symposium mentioned above with Professor C.N.Srinath, former Professor of English. Mysore Univesity and Currently Director, Dhvanyaloka as Inaugurator. At the outset, Professor Bijay Kumar Das, the President of the Association accorded a warm welcome to the delegates and highlighted the achievement of the Researchers' Association from 1995 to 2023. Dr. Pravat Kumar Mishra, Dr. Premalata Rout, and Dr. Chintmani Bharati registered the delegates and gave them Conference Kits, Dr. Sonali Das introduced Professor Srinath to the audience. Then Professor Srinath, Professor Bijay Kumar Das, and Professor Ashok Kumar Mohanty, the Secretary of the Researchers' Association, Odisha lighted the lamps. Mr. BrajaKishore Pall read out the Proceeding of the last Seminar held on 16 April 2023.



Prof. Srinath delivered the Inaugural Address. Professor Bijay Kumar Das delivered a Plenary Lecture under the caption, "Gandhi's Ideas and his Correspondence with the Statesmen in India and Abroad: The Sesquicentenary Tribute". There were 3 paper Reading Sessions on the first day in which Dr. Dolon Roy, Dr. Rima Ghosh (online), Dr. Ujjwal Dutta (online), Dr. Rajenda Kumar(online), Laxmidhar Panda and Brajakishor Pall presented their papers. Dr. Jnan Ranjan Padhi, Dr. Sonali Das, and Prof. Ashok Kumar Mohanty chaired the sessions.
The post-lunch Session " Workshop on Mahatma Gandhi in the Sesquicentenary of his Birth" was conducted by Bijay Kumar Das.



A SPECIAL SESSION ON POWERPOINT PRESENTATION ON THE RESEARCHERS' ASSOCIATION (1995-2023).
Dr Jnan Ranjan Padhi, Associate Professor of English and Head of the Department, Dera Natung Govt. College, Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh) presented the Programme from the day of establishment of the Association highlighting the achievement of the Association including the publication of its annual Journal, " The Critical Endeavour" from 1995 to 2023, and, more than 120 National Seminars and Webinars held under the auspices of the Association and innovative programs launched by the Association. The names of Eminent Professors English from all over India who came to Cuttack with their photos were shown in the program. The evening Cultural Programme was conducted by Dr Bilkesh Parveen.


Day 2 Programme began with a Plenary Lecture by Dr. Sonali Das, Associate Professor of English, Fakir Mohan University, Balasore on the topic"Gandhian Philosophy as Reflected in Indian English Literature". The session was chaired by Dr Jnan Ranjan Padhi. Paper Reading Session 4 was Chaired by Mr Laxmidhar Panda, Retd. Reader in English, Nimapara College in which Dr Susmita Mohanty and Dr Premalata Rout presented their papers. Paper Reading Session 5 was Chaired by Dr. Sonali Das in which Ms. Smutee Sandhya, Research Scholar, F.M. University, and Ms. Preeti Priyadarshini, Research Scholar, Ravenshaw University presented their Papers.
Paper Reading Session 6 was Chaired by Prof. Ashok K. Mohanty in which Ms. Madhubanti Bhuin, Research Scholar, Bankura University (West Bengal), Dr. Dolon Ray, Teacher-in-Charge, Chetna Chandidas Mahavidyalaya, (West Bengal), and Dr Manmohan Mishra, Reader in English, Begunia College presented their papers. Dr. Pravat Kumar Mishra, Retd. Reader in English, Niali College, Cuttack Chaired the last Paper Reading Session in which Dr. DayanidhiPradhan, Reader in English, Jaleswar Women's Colege, and Dr. Natabar Jena, Senior Lecturer in English, T.S.D. College, Ganjam presented their papers.


Professor N. Naga Raju, Vice Chancellor, G.M.University, Sambalpur delivered a Plenary Lecture on Gandhi in Indian Literature (online). In different sessions, Dr. Premalata Rout, Dr. Bilkesh Parveen, Dr. Dolon Ray, Dr. Manamohan Mishra, Dr. Susmita Mohanty, and Dr. Natabar Jena proposed a vote of Thanks.


In the Valedictory Session, Prof. C.N. Srinath gave away the Participation Certificates and Dr. Pravat Kumar Mishra Proposed a Vote of Thanks. Prof. Ashok Kumar Mohanty Chaired the Session.
