PROCEEDINGS OF THE NATIONAL SEMIAR ON

"Reconfiguring "Home" in Salman Rushdie, Amartya Sen and Ashis Nandy" and Professor D.K.Ray Memorial Lecture"

Held on 19 October 2021 at Hotel Akbari, Cuttack


At the Outset, Dr Sonali Das (Associate Professor of English, F.M. University, Balasore) invited the Resource Persons and Participants to take their Seats. Professor Bijay Kumar Das, the President of the Researchers' Association, Odisha delivered the Welcome Address. He reminded the Delegates of the 4 Webinars organised by the Association on 4 October 2020,24 January 2021, 11 July 2021, and 29 August 2021 on "Thirteen Canonical World Writers in English Translation", "Influence of British Romantic Poets on Indian Poets", "Manoj Das's World and Art" and "Revisiting John Keats's Poetry and Letters in the Bicentenary Year of his Death" respectively. Publications undertaken during this Pandemic Period include "Souvenir on Thirteen Canonical World Writers in English Translaton and Covid -19 Poems", "The Critical Endeavour Vol.27, Jan.2021, "Memorial Volume in Honour of Professor M.Q. Khan and Professor D.K.Ray" and "The Critical Endeavour Vol.27 No.2 July 2021 (Special Number on John Keats).


Professor Bijay Kumar Das, Professor Ashok Kumar Mohanty, Mr Basanta Kumar Mishra, Mr UmeshChandra Nayak, and Mr Laxmidhar Panda lighted the candle to mark the beginning of the first OFF-LINE Seminar. Then Dr Sonali Das moved the Motion of Condolences in honour of late Prof. Md.Fakruddin, Prof. D.K.Ray, Prof. Mahajiteswar Das, Prof. Jitendra NarayanPatnaik, and Prof. P.Balaswamy who passed away during Covid-19. All the delegates stood in silence for a minute to pay homage to the Departed Souls. On this occasion a Memorial Lecture was organized in honour of Prof. D.K.Ray. All the delegates offered Floral Tributes to Prof. Ray, bowing before his Photo placed in the Conference Hall.


Then begun the Academic Seminar with Mr Brajaa Kishore Pall, (Principal Oupada College, Balasore) reading out the Proceedings of the above mentioned 4 Webinars. Professor Bijay Kumar Das delivered the Keynote Lecture under the Caption, "Theoretical Readings of" Imaginary Homelands", "Home in the World" and' Exiled at Home", which was circulated among the delegates in the form of a booklet.

Paper Reading Session I: Dr Dolon Roy (Bankura University,W.B) prsented a paper on Salman Rushdie's "Imaginary Homelands", Dr Rima Ghosh (Calcutta University) presented a paper on Amartya Sen's "Home in the World", Dr Sonali Das (F.M. University) Chaired the Session.

Paper Reading Session II: Mr Laxmidhar Panda (Ex- Reader Nimapara College) presented a paper on Ashis Nandy, Mr Braja Kishore Pall (Principal, Oupada College) presented a paper on Ashis Nandy, Prof. Ashok Kumar Mohanty (SOA, Bhubaneswar) Chaired the Session.

Professor D.K Ray Memorial Lecture: by Professor C.R.V.Rao (EX-V.C, Vikram Shimapuri, University, AP). The Memorial Lecture under the caption, "E.L.T.Technology and National Education Policy 2020" was read out in absentia by Dr Sonali Das. The lecture was distributed among the delegates of the seminar.

Workshop on: CLOZE TEST

The Workshop conducted by Professor Bijay Kumar Das evoked lively Response from the delegates. The delegates participated in choosing the right word/correct line in filling up the gaps given in the questionniare, which was distributed among the participants.

Participants' Response: Dr Dolon Roy, Mr Basanta Kumar Mishra and Mr Umesh Chandra Nayak gave an account of the Seminar by way of Response.

Participants' Certificate: Prof. Ashok Kumar Mohanty gave away the Participants' Certificates.

Gifts to the first-time participants: Dr Sonali Das gave away the back Issues of the Journal, The Critical Endeavour to the delegates.

Vote of Thanks: Dr Bilkesh Parveen and Mr Umesh Chandra Nayak proposed a vote of thanks in different sessions.
