PROCEEDINGS OF THE NATIONAL SEMINAR HELD ON 7th April 2019

“Rethinking Non-fiction and Autobiographical Writings of Five National Award Winning Indian English Writers”

The inaugural session began at 10.30 a.m after the registration of the delegates drawn from four States: Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, U.P., and West Bengal. In the absence of Prof.Debendra Kumar Ray, the President of the Association, due to sudden illness, Prof.Ashok Kumar Mohanty, the Vice-President of the Association delivered the Welcome Address. Prof.C.R.Viseswar Rao, former Vice-Chancellor of Vikram Simhapuri University, Nellore (AP) inaugurated the National Seminar and gave his address under the caption, “Autobiographical Discourse: Narratological Diegesis”. Prof. Bijay Kumar Das introduced the theme of the seminar. Dr.Ipsita Nayak, KIIT University read out the proceedings of the last seminar held on 6th January 2019.

In Plenary Session I, Susheel K. Sharma, Professor of English, University of Allahabad spoke on “Identifying a Hindu: Insights from Raja Rao and Shashi Tharoor”. The session was chaired, by Prof. Ashok Ku. Mohanty. In plenary session, II Professor Bijay Kumar Das spoke on “Contextualizing Tone and Tenor in Shashi Deshpande’s Listen to Me”. The session was chaired by Prof.C.R.V.Rao.

Dr.Dolan Ray (WB), Mr.Laxmidhar Panda (Puri), Ms Pravati Panda (Paradeep), Ms Nabanita Karanjai (WB), Ms Usharani Rath (Olaver), Dr Sweta Mishra (Sambalpur), Prof Ashok K. Mohanty (Bhubaneswar), Dr Braja Kishore Sahoo (Khorda), Dr Raja Basu (WB) and Dr Bilkesh Parveen (Cuttack) presented their papers on Raja Rao, Manoj Das, Amitav Ghosh, Shashi Taroor, and Shashi Deshpande in three Paper Reading Sessions chaired by Prof. Susheel K. Sharma (Allahabad), Mr Umesh Chandra Nayak (Balasore) and Dr Satyasindhu Ghosh (Burdwan, WB) respectively.

A workshop on “Writing Research Papers / Term Papers and PhD Dissertations” was conducted by Professor Bijay Kumar Das.

Dr. Premalata Rout, a member of the Researchers’ Association, Odisha was felicitated on being awarded PhD degree in English by F.M University, Balasore (Odisha).

In the Valedictory Session, Professor C.R.V Rao gave away the participation certificates to the delegates of the National Seminar.

Dr. Sonali Das compered the programme and Dr. Pravat Kumar Mishra proposed a vote of thanks.
